Michael S. Martinez

Trial & Appellate


Michael S. Martinez practices litigation and appellate law. He provides key support on litigation teams that serve the firm's oil and gas and business clients, including drafting petitions, formulating and responding to requests for discovery and developing discovery and dispositive motions. He is also a member of the Texas Tech School of Law Executive Alumni Committee.

While in law school, Michael was named to the Dean's List five times. He also received numerous awards, including the Linda J. Kamp Service Award in recognition of his service to the Texas Tech University School of Law. Michael also has been recognized several times for his outstanding advocacy skills in moot court competitions. In 2010, he was named National Champion and was recognized for having the National Best Brief in the NLLSA National Moot Court Competition. In 2011, he was named the Elliott Cup Bankruptcy Moot Court Champion, an honor awarded by the Bankruptcy Section of the State Bar of Texas.

Michael was named International Champion in the American Bar Association's 2010 International Negotiation Competition held at Bond University in Queensland, Australia. Michael also was the 2011 recipient of the Donald Hunt Outstanding Barrister award recognizing the school's most outstanding advocate and was named Champion of the Board of Barristers Negotiation Competition in 2009. He also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Contract Law (2008) and Complex Litigation (2010). Michael served as a tutor for two professors at Texas Tech University School of Law and was a research assistant during his first year of law school.

During college and prior to attending law school, Michael was an employee relations manager and regional labor support manager. In this capacity, he handled union grievances and unemployment claims with the Texas Workforce Commission, and also created a training program for new members of management.
